SANGAM studio showed me a very meaningful way of living through Batik. It gave me the opportunity to meet new friends due to our common interests on Batik culture and practices. The motivation of this adventure was driven by looking and exploring The Future of Batik as a foreign person and as an Industrial Designer in Indonesia and, for the Pekalongan Batik people the curiosity to observe and learn international perceptions of their everyday lives.

My proposal project is called “The Profound Effect of Batik”, a documentary film that shows the values of Human Made products as the Batik fabrics. Giving the opportunity to the viewer to understand and learn that “design it always has a history, it belongs to a tradition and it is part of a system”.

Batik’s values are the principles that the industrialised and modern western societies are lacking due to the unvalued and very disposable material world in which they are part of it. This documentary film intents to express what I have learnt during my staying in Indonesia, a very short travel but very rich one in new knowledge.
